WHAT IS COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY?

Whether you're trying to fight anxiety and depression, beat addiction or simply lose weight, the key to success is learning how to think differently. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, sensible and effective approach which can help you to take control of your thoughts and think constuctively.

The effectiveness of CBT has been researched more extensively than any other psychotherapeutic approach, and it has an astounding reputation, often giving measurable results in as little as 10 sessions. Research shows that people who have CBT for various problems stay well longer and relapse less. I use CBT as a complementary therapy and do not seek to replace general medicine, but am happy to work alongside medical doctors deferring to their medical opinions where appropriate.


METHOD


The way we think influences the way we feel. So therefore learning to think differently will help you to feel and act differently.

As your counsellor I will work together with you to help you to gain insight into the way you perceive events and then teach you how to change unhelpful beliefs using a range of techniques and methods which you will be able to use on yourself for the rest of your life.

CBT often has a knock-on effect to other areas of your life, and as you become proficient in the use of these methods, you will find that you can tackle and sort out any other difficult areas of your life by yourself in the future, which means that a small investment now can pay dividends for the rest of your life, enhancing the quality of your life.
